Today is the 7th day of my $1,000 a Month Squidoo Experiment. I started out on Monday June 18, 2012 with a goal to build a $1,000 a month revenue stream from Amazon affiliate sales through Squidoo. I have made quite a few lenses this past week, but haven’t gotten any traffic (visitors) or made any sales yet.
I made the mistake early on of just looking at Google competition and not paying attention to Squidoo competition. Meaning, I saw an easy to rank for keyword phrase and went for it without check to see how many lenses are already targeting the phrase. A few of my keywords have 5 or 6 lenses targeting the exact same thing! So yesterday I started focusing on making lenses that didn’t have any Squidoo competition at all.
Now for some quick stats for the record:
Lenses at the Beginning of Week 1 – 0 Lenses at the End of Week 1 – 22
Earnings Over the Past 7 Days – $0.00 Visitors Over the Past 7 Days – 0
I made 22 lenses over the past week focusing on it for several hours a day. I have not done any outsourcing or backlinking. I actually decided NOT to outsource for this experiment at all because I want to see how far I can get with just my own work.
My goals for next week are to make at least 18 more lenses for a total of 40. This time I am only going to target keyword phrases that don’t have any competing lenses.
Once I use up all my really good keywords with no Squidoo competition, I will move on to ones that only have one competitor and so on. I have a homemade list with hundreds of keyword phrases though, so that will be a long time from now.
