I had just started writing for eHOW and was impressed. Then Demand Studios sent an email saying they were taking over. If you read their copyright policy, you will see that you award them the license to your copyright–and that they can do anything they want with your material, including change it and distribute it worldwide, without your permission. They also give YOU permission to use your material only ONCE, on your blog.

There is no professional writer in their right mind who would agree with this. If you write for them after May 8, 2010, you agree to their “terms and conditions”, and license them your copyright….

My question would be, do you folks ever put the same article on multiple sites? I know that Hub Pages marks them as duplicate if you do not change them enough, heck even one I did went back and changed, stayed “duplicate”.

I’d encourage anyone referencing ehow pages as a source, to ensure that the links to them include the nofollow tag. What’s good for the goose, is good for the gander. They are trying to appear legitimate by encouraging anyone to do precis’s of other people’s original research, and appearing to source the work, while tacking no follow tags onto the reference to ensure that no benefit actually accrues to the site that did the original research. Slimy. Actually, on second thought, maybe better to just not reference them as a source at all — even the precising they do isn’t that great.

Great, insightful post, Amy. I’ve had great success with eHow (making over $2k per month), and have never tried Hub Pages. I signed up for a hub account ages ago, and never did anything with it. I think I might give it a go after reading your post.

Great post on eHow vs Hubpages I also write for Infobarrel and Xomba. Now, I suppose I should add Hubpages to the list.

Ehow is going downhill at a fast rate and getting a bad rep on the way. I still write there, but not nearly as much as I was. Too risky.

Like you, I enjoy writing on HubPages and eHow (and Infobarrel and Xomba, too). I like each site for different reasons.

As so many of you who work at home writing web articles and blogs point out, the key (always) is to diversify, diversify, diversify!

I’ve written on both (extensively on eHow) and you’re exactly right the eHow articles will earn more quickly. Plus I think they’re easier to write.

But the links are no-follow so for link building HubPages (and Info Barrel) are the winners. And, like a lot of people, I’m a little leery of eHow right now. But the earnings there are hard to ignore.

I guess like everthing, the key is to diversify.

I have also seen some people in the short-term making money with eHow faster than HubPages, but I completely agree that it’s better to have articles there in the long term rather than risk them getting deleted. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to have articles deleted – just reminds me that I should back up all articles I hold on other sites, including HubPages.
