This is NOT Get Rich Quick

I want everyone who comes to this blog to know that making a living online is not a get rich quick process.

I work over 80 hours a week and spend several hundred dollars a month on my business.  Last month I made $2,700 for that time. After expenses it was more like $1,500 or maybe even a bit less than that.

Calculating that on a per hour basis I have made approximately $4.16 an hour after expenses.

So why am I crazy enough to keep working like this? Because I love it. I am not working a job, I am building a business. A business that will eventually be able to run on auto-pilot.

I am working my butt off for the next two years to have a better decade.

I just felt that it was important to post this because I don’t want to give anyone any false impressions that making money is easy. It will take WORK, dedication and time. However, it can be done.

    Hi Amy

I know you work hard at creating niche sites working 80 hours plus per week. How many niche sites do you currently own? Do you go back and add more content to your niche sites? You said you used wordpress now to create your sites but doesn’t the sites become outdated or do you keep adding content?

The only way to keep a wordpress blog from going “outdated” is to post the articles as Pages instead of Posts. That way there is no date on them. :)

Amy, just thought I would let you know I took the plunge today and purchased the Super Adsense Wordpress template. Your instructions were spot on! I’ve not managed to move my personal finance site, FrugalDad.com (work in progress to migrate posts from Blogger) to the template and plan to create many more niche sites following your advice. Thanks so much!

I assume that everyone that reads your blog is smart enough to know that this is not a “get rich quick” scheme. We see how hard you work, how much time you devote to teaching us and most of us realize that you are building a foundation one brick at a time. We are all excited to watch you to see you wind up in 10 years with the Great Wall of China from all those bricks…;-)

You are awesome and selfless, thanks for letting us share in your journey!

I just found your website a couple of months back and it has given me the courage to start my own blog http://www.myfirstjobsecondshift.com. I too am trying to start on this journey of blogging about what I love and live day in and out. I see you have a wonderful banner that is up on your blog right now. I am not a “technical person” per say and wanted to know how or where did you get your banner?
    Thanks.

    Hi Amy,

What you discussed in this thread is inspiring and nicely worded. I believe that there is no easy job and definitely working at home is not easy. However there are many advantages to working at home and I hope that you earn enough passive income to redeem your hard work you put into your business now.

Since you are making $4.16 per hour which is not fixed. But how do you support yourself financially? Your family and lifestyle can’t live on $4.16.

In any situation like that and I maybe will be working at a j.o.b. and doing part-time to build a business.

Hi Amy, as you know I am following you now for about 6 months. I admire your energy, but I have one question that comes to mind lately.

You are creating niche sites almost daily, so you will have say 50-100 sites by the end of the year. How will you keep this many sites up to date? I get the feeling that you focus on a niche site for a few days and after it is live you let it go on auto-pilot. Is this true, or do you go back to all your sites weekly to update them.

The reason why I ask you this is that the whole niche-site-hype in my opinion is going to explode as there are so many people putting sites live only to get a share in adsense or other programm’s. What do you think?

Richard, once I set up a site, I rarely go back to it. That is why I make sure it has 20 or so articles on it. I have sites I haven’t touched since June 2007 that are still earning me good money. :)

Wow that was a nice post. I didn’t know you were working 80+ hours per week but to be honest I am not surprised. Keep up the good work. You had a nice adsense increase last month :)

You are working almost 13 1/2 hrs a day? (you did say you take Sundays off now right?)My goodness!!! I have no clue how you find the time while having 3 kids. I know your husband stays at home, but still….I hope that you are taking care of yourself because that is quite a lot of work for $4.16 per hour. I know your income will eventually increase on its own though. I admire you for making all the sacrifice now. I am not sure i could give up that much time for that long!truly amazing.

Hi Amy, could you please help me out with this question. Is it possible to make a part-time living off writing material for associated content and constant content. I read in your blog you can earn between 10-15 dollars per article is that still the case? Thanks.

  13. admin on January 4th, 2008

I have not made a dime from constant content yet, but haven’t done much of anything with it since I spoke about it.

As far as associated content goes, it depends on what sort of income you need.

    Hi Amy

Do you find your position in google search results are affected by having a static website.
(in the above remark you mentioned 20 sites left untouched since june)

    Thanks

    David

David, They have actually been climbing in rankings. One of my sites that I haven’t touched since July actually still gets over 200 visitors a day from Google and MSN.

What do your kids do all day while you work? Do you spend any fun time with them?
