Building My Niche Site Part 2
Here is step two in my process of building a niche site. Yesterday I chose my topic, Autism, however this can be done with virtually any subject or topic you can imagine. Then I chose my domain name. I got AutisticChild.org.
Now on to getting keywords to write my articles on. First step is to go to the Google Keyword tool found here – https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
Once I am there I use the “Descriptive Words or Phrases” option and then I will type in:
Autism
Autistic
Then check “Use Synonyms”
Then I click on “Get Keyword Ideas”
From there it gives me a long list of keywords to choose from. So how do I pick which ones I want to use? Well you have two options actually…
If you sort by Advertiser competition you can see which keywords will pay you the most per click from adsense on your site. If you go with Avg Search volume you can get the keywords that are searched for the most.
Personally, I always go for the search volume, but I skip over the ones that have pretty much no advertiser competition if I am depending on adsense for the niche.
This is what my search results look like:

I will go through and write an article on each keyword and add it to my website or blog. While I am working on that I will also want to get the structure of my site set up so I can add the articles to it as I write them. I will be going through setting it all up on Monday…
Now that you know how to get keywords, brainstorm and see what niches you can come up with. See? It is actually quite simple.
Progress Overview

How long does it take from the time you choose a niche until you get the finished and online? Best of luck on your new niche.
It takes about a week since I usually outsource my articles and it takes about that long to get all the articles written.
After I have the articles I can set it up in a day. I usually have 2 – 3 websites in process at a time so when of my writers finishes some articles I can set up that site the same day.
Of course if you are writing your own articles it is all up to how fast you can write.
So glad you decided to do this step-by-step setup. It is certainly inspiring to see you walk us through the process because you’ve taken that seems really daunting and broken it down into manageable pieces…Keep them coming!
I’m really impressed with your hard work and success and making a blog about it was a really great idea. You’ve already accomplished so much. Can I ask about how much does it cost to outsource articles? Is it expensive? I have heard that you get what you pay for…good writers writing good articles charge a LOT but if you pay for a cheap writer you get a horrible article usually in bad english. I have had some niche sites planned for a while, but never got around to writing the content yet. I am afraid outsourcing would be expensive.
You can get some really good articles written for reasonable rates. The trick is finding some good ones. I have three writers that I love and will be working with for years to come. One of them is my sister-in-law. Family may be the best place to look first.
Amy, I miss the part of where you decide if a niche will be profitable or not. Now you’ve decided to take autism because of your son. But is it a profitable niche? Or do you just give it a run?
You can make any niche profitable if you can monetize the website with affiliate or adsense.
Autism, unfortunately, is very common. You will do very well in this niche. Having a personal connection with it, it will become close to your heart as well. I would definetly make it interactive, maybe add a forum down the road…if you have time to manage one! I don’t know how you get done with what you do now with 4 kids! God bless you!
