Not Going To Do It

It is official, I canceled the auction for my blog. After writing that last blog post I felt absolutely SICK to my stomach. (I take that as God telling me that what I was about to do was not right.)

I feel like I am selling my family and I just cannot do it. Sure, it will keep me in debt longer, but I am willing to accept that. Please accept my apologizes for even considering it.

Now I need to concentrate on growing my blog and making it the absolute BEST blog it can be. Any ideas on what you want me to include/write about/etc….?

Instead of this blog, I am going to sell some of my niche websites to achieve the same financial effect.

After closing the auction I gotta tell ya, I feel as though a huge relief has come over me.

I love you. All of you, you are worth more than any money this blog could have brought me.

Amy, if I had built something as successful as this blog I would let it grow for a long time before I ever sold it. You have only been doing this since May and look how far you’ve come. Maybe by this time next year you can sell it for twice as much. Who knows. I think you started with a goal to have your debt paid off by April 2009 and you need to KEEP your blog going until then to document it all. Maybe after the deadline you can sell it if you want, you know? I think you’ve made the right decision for now though.

Nichele, You always give good advice. You are right. This needs to at least stay mine until after April 2009 and my debt goal has been met.

BTW everyone, Nichele is a great ghostwriter. She did some work for me that was top notch this week.

Amy I think keeping your site and selling off your niche sites would be a good move. I Just felt “jaded” and I’m glad your not selling

Just Remember you have more friends here from your blog than you’ll get from your niche websites

Spring, Thank you for helping me see the light. You kept me from making a HUGE mistake. I owe you one.

    Amy,

I’ve been reading all the posts about you selling your blog and reading posts from other bloggers’ sites. I think you are doing the right thing by not selling your site. I understand completely about feeling overwhelmed about debt but you do have a lot of dedicated readers who genuinely care about your well-being. Good luck to you.

Whew!!!! Amy, you probably don’t realize it but you are REALLY helping people. You are making a difference in people’s lives. Plus, YOU are getting a great deal of support from the people who come to your blog. People who truley want to see you succeed. Glad you changed your mind!!

    Hi Amy,

I was surprised when I saw you were selling it. No one else could really “own” this blog. It’s your debt and it’s your goal to get out of it. I honestly would of stopped dropping by if it was owned by someone else. But I understand financial pressure….believe me. But it’s like a soap opera….”let’s see how far Amy has come in her goal and what is she up to now”. Plus your helping other people come-out from hiding from their debt too, including myself. What works for you gives hope that it will work for someone else. Your setting an example on how it should be done…honest, with integrity, and from your heart and that is very hard to find on-line.

Good luck to you…you’ll be okay!

I’m glad you didn’t sell it. To echo everyone else’s sentiments, it couldn’t “belong” to anyone else. People are here to see you accomplish your goal, and a blog tracking your progress is kind of like taking all your readers along for the ride. :)

I’m glad you changed your mind, Amy. This blog wouldn’t have been the same. In so many ways, it has branded you. We’re all here to cheer YOU on. :) I’ll bet you can turn a nice profit by flipping some niche sites. :)

Well thank goodness. I was so hoping you’d stick with this. As well as you are doing, who says you will be in debt longer? 17 months is a long time. April 2009 is my goal to retire to do this full time. It will be my 50th birthday. You’re never too old to dream and you never know what’s around the corner. Good for you Amy.

    Amy,

I am glad you made the decision to stick it out to the end.

For what it’s worth, yours is the only blog I read a few times a week religiously.

You are focused and I respect that.

In fact I’m a bit envious.

Longtime reader, not much of a commenter, but had to comment to say that I’m glad you’re not selling it. When I read that you were, I felt as if you were selling out or something. I think in a lot of ways, YOU are what makes this blog and having it owned by somebody else (or whatever the set up was going to be) wouldn’t be the same, and wouldn’t be as credible.

Thanks everyone. I also felt like a “sell out” that is why I knew I couldn’t do it. I am so glad that I decided to keep this. In fact, it has made me realize how much I love this blog.

Amy, I’m so glad I read these posts after the fact. I’m so glad you didn’t sell the blog. You’re an inspiration to me and many others. I’d recommend monetizing the blog a little more if you want it to bring in more money.

Your goal awhile back was to flip virtual real estate, so I’d sell the niche websites as you can get what they’re worth.

You’ve paid nearly $10,000 since you started paying off debt this year. That’s really great, especially with 4 children. I think you’re doing fine. Selling this blog might have brought you a big check, but you’d be selling your baby, your original record of your journey. The journey and what you learn are just as important as paying off the debt. We’re not just getting out of debt, we’re trying to change the world, too.

Thanks for keeping the blog! -Sherri

    Hi Amy,

I’m so glad you decided to keep your blog! It is such an inspiration to me is required reading (and I do take advantage of your offers from time to time). You have motivated me to write my own blog, but so far it is a weak sister to your incredible effort. Your frequent posts are what keep me going in my efforts to earn money from Internet Marketing.

    Thank you so much! Erv
