My New Home On Wordpress

Well I am officially set up on wordpress now. It took me all day so far to get it up and running right. The header is temporary, I know it really does not fit with my theme. I am actually having a graphics guy create a header for me and am still waiting on it to be completed.

I actually really like the way I was able to get everything organized into categories. That makes it a lot easier for someone wanting to read information on specific topics.

Anyone know of some ‘Must Have’ plug ins? So far I have Askimet, No Wait Ping and Google Sitemap Creator. I feel so proud of my new blog. It is better than being on blogger because I finally feel as though I own it.

If you are still on the fence about switching over from blogger to your own wordpress blog, go for it. (Don’t use Wordpress.com for this, they don’t allow any ads or adsense).

Anyway, today is going to be a short work day for me because I am taking the kids to a Halloween party.

Very smart move Amy! WordPress beats the pants off of blogger. I posted small list of plugins I use and love at my blog. I won’t post the link here because I’m not sure how your spam filter is configured, although I’ll probably end up there anyway, as I normally do :) Hopefully you fish me out.

    Looking really good!!

I am thinking about making the move as well but have been delaying it. This maybe the kick that I need ;)

By the way what is the theme that you are using. It looks really good.

Amy! This looks FABULOUS! Coming up in the world. LOL. Hey, I have TONS of plugins. You need the backup data, dashboard editor, various widgets, SEO pack, feedburner, page order, spam karma (I’ve never had ANY spam), video quicktags, and WYSIwordpress to name just a few. If any of these sound yummy enough, just yell. I have all them and can send. Loving the new look.

    Amy,

This looks so much better on this site. I wanted to ask you and everyone else how they felt about switching. I originally came from wordpress.org because of all of the problems.

Blogger have very few templates compared to wordpress. I am thinking about switching I just do not want to go through the aggravation of doing it again.

You keep going at this pace you will be right there with John Chow and Shoemoney!

    Amy,

Please get the Subscribe To Comments plug-in and add it (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/subscribe-to-comments/). It allows people to subscribe to the comments of each post and I love it!

Also, can you please change your blog to where it shows the whole posts instead of having click on “Read More” to view the entire post?

Otherwise, it looks great and I’m really happy for you!

    Welcome to WordPress!

I have the “read more” so I can have 20 posts on one page. otherwise the page would be a mile long. That way people can quickly scan for what they want to read. :)

    Amy,

That’s cool, but I would suggest not having EVERY post setup like that. Short posts can easily be displayed, but you can add the “Read More” for long posts, like your earnings updates.

Also, can you change the RSS feed to display the full post? I really liked that about your previous setup.

Glad to see you added your pic back to the site! Keep it real!

    Thanks!

Here are my favorite plug-ins (in order):
    1. Wordpress Database Backup
    2. Adsense Manager
    3. Do Follow
    4. Related Posts
    5. Sociable
    6. No WWW
    7. Google XML Sitemaps
    8. MyBlogLog Widget

And I’m sure there are many more that are useful and must-have. If you have any questions or want the links for these - just let me know! Have fun - customizing WordPress is addicting!

I set the RSS to full, but for some reason it is still showing the read more in the feeds as well. I wish I knew how to fix it while still keeping that function on the blog itself.

Thanks Lisa and Robin! I am going to check out all these plug ins tonight after trick-or-treating with the kids. :)

I’m trying to create my own blog on wordpress using hostgator. I know you need to register your domain, input it into hostgator, etc but I was wondering if there are any steps I should follow to setting up my site and what file transfer program you use.

your blog is great and i’m a college student experiencing what it’s like to have major debt. i hope you achieve success in all your endeavors and hopefully you can help me along the way :)

Use fantastico in your CPanel to install wordpress into your domain. Then you can add additional themes and plug ins from your computer with an FTP program. I use FileZilla (it’s free). ;)
