To Heck With Duplicate Content

I must admit, I dreaded rewriting and spinning my articles. It would slow me WAY down and in the time it would take me to spin an article, I could have written 3 unique ones. Although, having a unique version for each article directory is ‘optimal’ I decided it just wasn’t for me.

I have spent the last two month painstakingly changing up my articles, worrying about SEO and taking every precaution to avoid the duplicate content penalty. Guess what that resulted in? Most of my articles still only have one version listed on the first page of google.

My impression what that changing each article would allow them to all have a chance at the first page. However from the 200+ articles I have written and submitted I have not seen this to be the case.

So I decided I am just going to write my articles and mass submit them and not worry about it anymore.

I mean, the more exposure I can give an article means that more people will read it and that will lead to more visitors to my websites.

Even though only one or two pages with my article will show up high in google, it does not really matter. Why?

Because the articles will be picked up by other publishers and placed on their own websites, and their websites can be found in google. Maybe not that exact page, but people will still come across my articles in many different places.

The ultimate goal is NOT just having your article listed high in google, it is about TRAFFIC. How much traffic can you get?

In my opinion, the more the better. Put your article in front of every reader you can. At least, that is what I am going to do… and I tell you what… It feels good to not stress about google anymore.

However, there is one trick needed to make this work -

Make Your Article Viral. How? Create an article that people love to read and share with others. The viral affect a high quality article can bring will bring more traffic than a sub-par article that is listed on the top of google. Keep that in mind.

Sounds good to me. I looked into spinning articles and it just overwhelmed me. It takes a lot of time and if it isn’t worth it then why waste precious time. Amen.

I say go for it, Amy.

You’re ALREADY looking at duplicate content issues if someone picks up your articles from EzineArticles and posts it to their site.

It seems like the whole duplicate content thing is just rubbish.

I would love if you could track the changes in your traffic by trying mass submission.

Will you be using a software to help you with that?

    Please keep us updated.

I keep track in my day planner. :)

Excellent - because I had just been thinking the same thing. I’m glad to hear that I wasn’t alone on this - spinning articles is just so tedious! I didn’t think I could take it anymore…

But if you create duplicate content won’t Google recognize that and then none of the content will show up in searches?

I’ll admit, I’m not brave enough to mess with Google like that. But I’ll be watching to see how your experiment turns out :)

Heh. I wish I’d read this before I forked out money for Jetspinner stuff. Then I took a look at what I’d have to do to set one up for spinning. Ugh. Too much time. Keep us posted!

    Hi Mom,

Duplicate content means that the same unique text has been found by Google somewhere else on the web.

If you have DC that does not mean that NON of the content will be showing in the rankings. Only that the first one will been shown. So as long as you are the first (and that can be difficult already, even if it is e.g. an article on your own website) .. there should not be any problem with your page ranking for it.

    Hope this helps

p.s. this has nothing to do with messing with Google. Google just does not like it when people searching for specific information will find exactly the same info on multiple places!

Gosh if you are getting any articles high on Google results, especially first page, then you are really doing well. Any advice for those of us struggling with making our articles visible to the search engines?

I like the fact that you realized that a piece of advice may be good, but if it doesn’t fit for you, then figure out what DOES work for you and do that instead.

    Thank-you Richard.
    That does help a lot.
After I posted here I went and did some reading and learned what you said, that the highest ranking article will show up in the results. The duplicate ones will be put in supplemental.

When I said I don’t want to mess with Google, what I meant by that is that I don’t want to do anything that will get my site penalized by Google. I’m still pretty new to this SEO thing, and have a lot to learn.

well, i have a bank of articles for my different blogs…i’d rather invest in a software that gives mass-submissino rather than do individually. Any ideas?

    Starwin,
This is what I use. They submit to 40,000 publishers for me. :)

    Amy,

So, any success with mass submission?

I’d love to hear about your results!

I did mass submission for all of september. I haven’t really seen much results from it yet, but it is still early. As of this month (october) I am going back to spinning because I hired my mother to spin my articles for me. :) Amy

    Amy,

Any more progress on the mass submission?

Love to hear how it’s working for you!

    Chris

    Went back to spinning.

  16. CHunter on October 20th, 2007

Sorry to hear that it didn’t work out for you, Amy.

But you’re still working hard and that’s going to pay off big time for you!

    Later!
